2 Wheels Maybe

 If any of you have been hanging out hoping I'd write about longtail cargo bikes again, well, that is really sad. However, here it is! I received an email from Mongoose a few days ago taunting me with the promise of cheap closeout mountain bikes. And, I've been jonesing for a mountain bike with which I might have a slightly better chance of keeping up with my coffee/riding buddies (something built in this century). So I clicked on the email. When I reached the sale page, I spotted two hardtails that were a bit tempting, but then... I saw what was hiding in the bottom right corner!      A few years ago I drooled over the long 'goose and waited for it to become available in the US - it started out in Canada. And I watched the price go up. I saw the KevCentral Review  and it contained a discount! And I watched the Chris Akrigg video.  And I continued to drool. And time kept passing, and the Envoy became less and less visible on the Mongoose website. Finally...

Be still my heart! (a Benno Carry On Spotted this week at DFC Cycles ) Longtail cargo bikes - for years I've been watching but have never seen one in the Hub City. But this month I've run across two, real, honest-to-goodness, longtail cargo bikes here in Lubbock. For cargo bike dorks this is exciting stuff! Even more exciting to me is that the two cargo bikes I've seen have been two at the top of my most-wanted-bikes list - the Benno Carry On and the Radwagon. Rad Power Bikes Radwagon (Version 3) The Radwagon has appealed to me since its release and has consistently represented the best cargo bike deal out there. While there are nicer bikes out there with higher quality components, the $1500-$1600 Radwagon continues to be the most impressive bang for the buck - and Rad Power has done a great job of being consistent in their deliveries, service, and customer satisfaction.  For dorks (like me) who are always questing for ways to get out of the car and get...

For those of you who were profoundly disappointed that this year's Holiday Sale post contained almost no cargo bikes (I'm still deeply disappointed too), I thought I'd offer up my new favorite inexpensive Yuba. But first, we have to say goodbye to my old favorite inexpensive Yuba - the Mundo Classic. The Real-Deal-Steel-Steal Longtail Cargo Bike (was $999) The Mundo has been the quintessential longtail cargo bike in my cargo bike dreams, and the $999 Mundo Classic has played a crucial role in my cargo bike scheming. But now it's gone. (You can still get a Mundo, but the lowest-price version is now the $1800 Mundo Lux (which, to be fair, is a much nicer bike.) When the Mundo Classic disappeared from the website I let out a great sigh. But then I clicked on the Compact Cargo page and found a new Yuba - the Kombi. And I felt better. To be honest, Craigslist has been a bit of a bummer lately. As we reach the holiday season, fewer and fewer cool things have been popping up. I'd be sad about it, but it's a good time of year to avoid temptations. Today, however, the Amarillo Craigslist offered up some big tempters for a dork like me: Look at all that 2-wheeled goodness in one screen capture! Oset motorcycles - yes, I'm a fan. Remember the Electric Hooliganism post from 2013? How about the  Exhaust Pipes post from 2019? Both of those posts contain videos that show how amazingly capable the Osets are, and that 24" bike is actually right-sized for adults. Alright alright alright!!! KevCentral - way to go! Besides my obsession with cargo bikes, I'm also bit infatuated with the Huffy Cranbrook (a cheap, universal-palette bike for building all kinds of funky bikes.) Through that obsession, I ran across a KevCentral video where he went down to the local WallyWorld, bought a discounted Cranbrook , and did a very thorough review. Since then, I've seen Kev move up the ranks. Recently I was very excited to see him review a bike from Detroit Bikes . (I'm a big fan of those sleek, non-motored machines from the Motor City.) So, today I was all kinds of excited to see that mangu Mongoose sent him an Envoy to review. The biggest (and most expensive bike) I've seen Kev review Kev, I have Envoy envy! In the quest for cargo bike extremes, today we're going small. Added for dramatic effect! (Let me know if it helped.) The Dachshund Cargo Bike (approximately $0) Since this is 2Wheels Maybe, we'll start with the cheap and the DIY - the Dachshund! The Mighty Dachshund DIY cargo bike! (youtube video) I ran across this one on youtube and fell weirdly in love with it. It looks like the ingredients you'll need are... a kiddie bike a rigid mountain bike a well-worn skateboard deck a milk crate and a whole lotta chutzpa ...to build this one! I am especially impressed with the double-chainwheel drive setup - a creative way to solve the ground clearance issue. Able to haul a tiny bike in style! Do I want one? No. Do I want to build one?
