Two Groovy Carbon-Neutral Local VW Microbuses

Microbus that doesn't burn gas #1:

This one's easy. It does not run at all.

But it gets a lot of smiles and stories and photos. And you can enjoy it too. This one is overflow seating at Yellowhouse Coffee here in Lubbock.

It's a pop-top. You can sit in it with your friends and talk about how cool it is to hang out in a 45 year-old bus without having to insure it and keep it tuned. I have to admit, it's the coolest outdoor seating venue in Lubbock. (Grizz and I have talked many times about how cool it would be to electrify it, but it'd be a darn shame to take it away from all the smiling people who hang out in it.)

Microbus that doesn't burn gas #2:

This one's less easy, but oh so tempting for retro-eco dorks like me. This one is electric. The conversion work is all done, but it does need batteries. (They all seem to need batteries.)

Find it on Albuquerque Craigslist

Relatively speaking, this one is a steal. I say that because a microbus in this condition without the electric conversion should be worth about $4000. It's like getting the conversion parts and labor free. AND, this one's not an unfinished project; it's a completed project in need of a new set of batteries. So, many of the bugs (VW pun intended) have already been worked out.

Lithium dreams - plenty of room for enough batteries for real highway travel (or recharging only once per week).

The Warp 9 is a bad mammajamma DC motor! (and plays well for Trekkies)

Microbus and hurry. Hmm...

The EVAlbum page (And another Trek reference!)

You can go to the EVAlbum page to learn more about the particular beast and lots of similar conversions.

Okay, there you have it - two mostly carbon-neutral microbuses for you.

May your eco-dork hippie dreams come true and may we all work together to help our fellow earthlings breathe and live better!
