Holy Cannoli, Mongoose Man! The Envoy Cargo Bike is coming to the US!
Love the Mongoose logo!
This is not a drill, people - it's coming to the US! It's coming in hot! Unfortunately, it's not coming in cheap. (Is this another of those presidential tariff thingies?)
Since our first Mongoose Envoy post, I keep swinging back by to check on the status of the first department-store longtail cargo bike. Today my perseverance was rewarded. The Canadian link referred me back to the USA. Man was I excited! So I clicked the link and was rewarded with a little less excitement. What had been $500-Canadian had become $750-US. (Which is still pretty inexpensive for a longtail cargo, but no longer vastly less expensive than the competition.)
Not much has changed since the our first posting about the Envoy. The bike looks the same. The site still links to the really great Chris Akrigg video. (Even if you're not a cargo-bike dork, it's a lot of fun to watch.)
In case you were wondering about the specs
So, really, the biggest take-aways are:
- You'll be able to buy it at COMING SOON here in the States
- It'll cost $125 less than the rather tasty and philanthropic Portal Cargo Bike
- It'll cost $250 less than the tried and true Yuba Mundo Classic
- It'll cost $150 more than an Xtracycle Leap Cargo Bike Kit
- It'll cost $350 less than the Argo Cargobike Kit
Our Portal Cargo Bike Post
The Yuba Mundo Classic in a 2Wheels post
The Xtracycle Leap in a 2Wheels Post
Argo Cargo Kit (Video here - pretty danged amazing!)
So, yes, I'm sort of disappointed at the big price increase, but I'm still stoked to see the cargo bike movement growing into the mainstream and becoming more accessible. For those wanting to make positive changes, the cargo bike is a powerful tool for creating a healthier world. May we continue to solve complicated problems with simple solutions. Be well and keep pedaling!
PS. If I had the money to throw around today, I'd pick the Portal, but I'd love to own any bike (or kit) in this post.

Jennifer C. at Mongoose.com told me 11-Sep-19 the Mongoose Envoy would be available on Amazon.com October 2019. Nothing yet. Follow up to Jennifer C for update pending reply. Will post new info as it becomes available. Costco Canada gives the standard reply regarding they cannot guarantee any specific product at any given time.
ReplyDeleteThe Envoy is currently available on the US Amazon site and shows available to ship in 1-2 days for both frame sizes. (I did a post on it on September 28). Good luck in your quest to buy one, and thanks for reading and commenting!
