Bargain Electric Car Shopping? Advice on Early Leaf Shopping

Image
[Warning for bird/bike enthusiasts - this is a post where I endeavor not to post pictures of birds or bikes.] M and I were having coffee this week in our usual spot. About once a week we try to get together to get caught up on all the important stuff. We generally talk about education, literature, family, being Christians, and things with wheels. When the weather's tolerably nice, we sit outside and try not to be too distracted by traffic. Nope - it's not a Leaf or even a car, but (snagit!) that's a beautiful sight in the LBK! One of Lubbock Citibus' two electric buses kept going by. So, yes, we were distracted by traffic. [Another warning: we are both Christians who believe that climate change is real and man-made. Yes, we are a rarity in this part of the world.] The conversation naturally turned to electric vehicles. Another thing that we have in common is that we are both very cheap frugal. So even though we have a deep appreciation for ele...

In with the New - a New (Lower-cost) Face in the Yuba Cargo Bike Line-up

Image
For those of you who were profoundly disappointed that this year's Holiday Sale post contained almost no cargo bikes (I'm still deeply disappointed too), I thought I'd offer up my new favorite inexpensive Yuba. But first, we have to say goodbye to my old favorite inexpensive Yuba - the Mundo Classic. The Real-Deal-Steel-Steal Longtail Cargo Bike (was $999) The Mundo has been the quintessential longtail cargo bike in my cargo bike dreams, and the $999 Mundo Classic has played a crucial role in my cargo bike scheming. But now it's gone. (You can still get a Mundo, but the lowest-price version is now the $1800 Mundo Lux (which, to be fair, is a much nicer bike.) When the Mundo Classic disappeared from the website I let out a great sigh. But then I clicked on the Compact Cargo page and found a new Yuba - the Kombi. And I felt better. The new (to me) $999  Yuba Kombi So, now the world feels right-ish again. I can still order a $999 Yuba that...

Speaking of electric mopeds... the Moto and the Monday Gateways

Image
[Blogger Note: In our Bring on the Electric Mopeds! post, we looked at four companies building electric motorbikes that strongly resemble the old 2-stroke mopeds of the 1970's. Of those four companies, two had their roots in classic mopeds and two started as e-bike builders. In this post, we'll feature two more designed and built by vintage mopedders. It's a great time to be an e-bike blogger!] I seemed to have developed a YouTube problem. Yep, I'm watching too much YT these days, but there's so much good stuff out there. In the never-ending quest for electric 2Wheelers, one channel that I keep going back to is Moped Problems . Five years ago the channel started detailing the life of a (gas-powered) moped shop in New York, but back in February of 2018 an interloper appeared on the channel - a  Super 73 electric bike. And that opened the door for an electron-fueled revolution. By November of 2018 they announced their intention to build an e-moped! In one s...

Electric Trials Bikes, Analog Trials Bicycle, a Cargo Bike, and 2 Tandems in Amarillo? Woohoo!

Image
To be honest, Craigslist has been a bit of a bummer lately. As we reach the holiday season, fewer and fewer cool things have been popping up. I'd be sad about it, but it's a good time of year to avoid temptations. Today, however, the Amarillo Craigslist offered up some big tempters for a dork like me: Look at all that 2-wheeled goodness in one screen capture! Oset motorcycles - yes, I'm a fan. Remember the Electric Hooliganism post from 2013? How about the  Exhaust Pipes post from 2019? Both of those posts contain videos that show how amazingly capable the Osets are, and that 24" bike is actually right-sized for adults. Alright alright alright!!! Yep, an Oset dealer just 125 miles away The whole Oset line-up, but... ...what is that in the back? Yes, I'm getting over the delusion that I'm built for bicycle trials, but just look at that thing! Surely I could be a vastly better curbhopper if I was riding that seatless marvel! Surel...

Let the Holiday E-Bike/Cargo Bike Sales Begin! (2019 Edition - CYBER Monday Update)

Image
[Keep checking back on this post - I will add new sales as I become aware of them. Cyber Monday at the Bottom] Let's get it started! Woohoo! Oh yeah! (Yes, I get electron-excited this time of year!) To start things off, two companies very familiar to the MSRG (Mesquite Hugger Readership Group, AKA Grizz and Spencer) have already thrown down their holiday-sale gauntlets. Rad Power Bikes (11/15/2019) has already dropped their entire line (except the RadRunner) by $200. When you couple that with free shipping, these bikes offer one heck of a deal. That means that you can get the Rad of your choice parked on your porch for just $1299. If you had your heart set on the RadRunner, it is on sale for $100 off, so you can have one of these for $1199. When you look at the stats and components on those bikes, it's gonna be hard to beat this deal! RadWagon (our first cargo bike in this post) - you so sexy!  (See them all here.) Juiced Bikes (11/15/2019) have also introduced...
