2 Wheels Maybe

[Warning for bird/bike enthusiasts - this is a post where I endeavor not to post pictures of birds or bikes.] M and I were having coffee this week in our usual spot. About once a week we try to get together to get caught up on all the important stuff. We generally talk about education, literature, family, being Christians, and things with wheels. When the weather's tolerably nice, we sit outside and try not to be too distracted by traffic. Nope - it's not a Leaf or even a car, but (snagit!) that's a beautiful sight in the LBK! To be honest, Craigslist has been a bit of a bummer lately. As we reach the holiday season, fewer and fewer cool things have been popping up. I'd be sad about it, but it's a good time of year to avoid temptations. Today, however, the Amarillo Craigslist offered up some big tempters for a dork like me: Look at all that 2-wheeled goodness in one screen capture! Oset motorcycles - yes, I'm a fan. Remember the Electric Hooliganism post from 2013? How about the  Exhaust Pipes post from 2019? Both of those posts contain videos that show how amazingly capable the Osets are, and that 24" bike is actually right-sized for adults. Alright alright alright!!! Yep, an Oset dealer just 125 miles away The whole Oset line-up, but... ...what is that in the back? Yes, I'm getting over the delusion that I'm built for bicycle trials, but just look at that thing! Surely I could be a vastly better curbhopper if I was riding that seatless marvel! Surel...

Taken on the Texas Tech campus Earlier this week I posted a pic (on Mesquite Hugger ) of a little electric Vantage GreenVan that D and I encountered as we were dropping off our recycling. And, as per usual, it sparked a lot of curiosity about oddball electric vehicles for me. So, I soon found a Vantage trio for sale on the Dallas Craigslist. They're in Aubrey, Texas, a little northeast of Denton. Woohoo! $1333 each! If only the little guys were fully street legal and a bit faster... Two of three on one trailer! I would not call them pretty, but, oh, the places you'll go fossil free! While I was on the DFW CL, I had to poke around a bit and saw this electro-pumpkin just east of Dallas. I've seen it for sale before, but it always needed work to get it going. Now it's a runner and a runner at a pretty reasonable price.  Sure, it won't haul as much as three Vantages, but it'll haul at least twice as fast and will incite ra...

[Following up on this recent post ] On my daily romp through the local Craigslist today I spotted just the thing needed for any of you who've been itching to build an e-Cub - a donor bike, and it's right here in Lubbock. Really, there are a jillion of these out there, but you don't even have to go hunting for this one.  Admittedly, it's been a while, but it's a bit of a tradition around here to share low-cost DIY cargo bikes that pop up on Craigslist. Most often, they appear in Austin. You've got to appreciate that Keep-Austin-Weird mentality showing up in eco-friendly vehicles!   Lately, the pickings have been rather slim, but this silver beauty recently materialized and I knew I had to share it with you:    This one looks pretty clean and simple for a DIY bike: it's all one color, it looks pretty symmetrical, one gear, one brake, a seat that cradles your bum. Not bad. Here is the text from the ad:   So there you have it, a $125 shopping-cart cargo bike. You know, if you added a 3-speed rear hub, you could take it more places (and climb a few hills). Yes, I know it's a lesson in futility, but every day I check Lubbock Craigslist to see what random bargains pop up. I always check bicycles first. Here and there I run across something cool, but today I was a little shocked to see one of those things that's not like the others. Yep, the street trials bike that Danny Mac rides was the very first ad. Wowser! It's rare to see one pop up anywhere, and this one has been gathering dust just a few miles from my house. Wowser! And it's very inexpensive for a quality trials bike!   Check out that top-left corner!!!! There it is - right behind the Canada Dry and Gatorade!   (What? No Red Bull?)   So, am I going to run out and buy it? Absolutely not! $600 right before Christmas for a bike that I have no business riding - nope, just can't do it. But, man, that thing is cool!   I gotta stay off the Craigslist!   May your surprises be good ones! (And, if you go buy it, please send us a pic!) ...

 Finding cool stuff for sale - I think it's self punishment for something. I've been doing well clearing out the garage this year. Two cars have left.  No cars, motorcycles, or scooters have been purchased. I've even been clearing out the backyard shed. So, why do I keep going back to Craigslist? We'll just say it's blog research. Yeah...that's it! While "blog researching" this week, the vintage electro-dork in me heard a siren song coming from the Dallas area. It may not be impressive in stature, but this is a real-deal, Made-in-America, street-legal, electric motorcycle from 1973. Four decades before you could buy a Zero, you could buy this California cruiser and ride gas-free.    $400 or best offer - you seldom see them this cheap or complete!
